Class Description:

The American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED class will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. This class meets OSHA/workplace requirements and meets the CPR requirement for the California Teaching Credential.

  • Adult, Child and Infant CPR
  • How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Conscious and Unconscious Choking
  • Basic First Aid including burns; cuts; head, neck and back injuries and more

Class Format: This is a blended learning course including an online portion and an instructor-led classroom skill session.

Duration: Up to 2 hrs class session + 3 hr 50 min online

Certification: 2 year American Red Cross certificate

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor course has been updated to include the latest ECC Guidelines and provides instructor candidates with the skills and knowledge to teach the American Red Cross basic-level First Aid, CPR and AED courses.

Prerequisites

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Possess current basic-level American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification or equivalent

Certification

Upon successful course completion, candidates will receive an American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certificate valid for 2 years

 

First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Class Resources and FAQs

Online Precourse

Prior to the in-class session, all participants must complete an online Instructor course thru the Red Cross Learning Center.

You will receive a separate email from the Red Cross with information to complete the online portion of the class. Please read the email carefully and follow the link in the email to complete the online portion before the classroom session.

If you signed up for the class last minute and did not receive the online course information, please reply to your registration confirmation email or call our office immediately. Otherwise, we will assist you at the start of the class.

Course Materials

Links to all course materials will be emailed to instructor candidates when you register for a class.  Participants may bring the materials to class in either digital format on a laptop, iPad or tablet, or printed hard copy. Print versions of these materials are available for purchase from the Red Cross Store.

Practice Teaching Assignments

Each Instructor Candidate must complete two Practice Teaching Assignments during the class.

You will receive an email with your assigned Practice Teaching Assignments and instructions to prepare for teaching your assigned topics/skills. If you do not receive the email at least 3 days before your scheduled class please contact our office at 800-916-1213.

Note: We are not required to provide your practice teaching assignments before the class, we do this as a courtesy to help Instructor Candidates prepare ahead of time. Not receiving an email or not checking your email is NOT an acceptable excuse for rescheduling a class. Practice teaching assignments will be assigned at the start of the class for those who didn’t receive the email.

If you decide to leave the class for any reason, you will NOT receive a refund and will NOT be eligible to transfer to a different class.

What to Bring to Class

The following items are REQUIRED for the class:

  • Proof that you are at least 16 years old (photo ID)
  • Current American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification or equivalent
  • Online Instructor Course completion certificate
  • Class Waiver Form (printed)
  • Practice Teaching Assignments/Class Forms (printed)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor’s Manual
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Participant’s Manual
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Course Presentation
  • Adult and Infant CPR pocket masks (may be purchased at class for $20/set)

Program Policies

Program Policies for Instructor Courses

Refund Policy: Class fees are nonrefundable and no refunds will be issued once fees have been submitted. Class materials and supplies such as course manuals and textbooks, CPR masks and all other class supplies are nonrefundable.

Transfer Policy: The class transfer fee is $150.00 and registered participants are required to complete a Online Transfer Request at least 72 hours prior to the class date in order to be eligible to transfer. Transfers will only be granted if space is available in a future class with-in 60 days of the original class date. Only (1) transfer is allowed per registration.

No Show Policy: If a registered participant is a no-show and absent from their scheduled class, the participant will not receive a refund of any kind and is not eligible for a class transfer.

Class Space is Limited: If a registered participant decides to leave the class for any reason, they will NOT receive a refund and will NOT be eligible to transfer to a different class.

Cancelled Class Policy: CPR and Safety Training reserves the right to cancel classes as needed. In the event a class is canceled registered participants will be offered a transfer to a different class at no additional charge or a full refund.

Visitor Policy: Only registered class participants are allowed in the classroom during training. All visitors must wait in the parking lot.

BLS Provider (CPR/AED for Healthcare)

Course Description - American Heart Association BLS Provider is an Instructor-led class and teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.

Certification - 2 year American Heart Association BLS Provider e-card

Manual - Participants may bring their own BLS Provider Manual (2020 edition required by the AHA) or purchase an ebook online for $15.80  

Optional First Aid Certification - Heartsaver First Aid - $45 (2 year AHA certificate)
Participants who add First Aid must complete the online Heartsaver First Aid course thru the AHA eLearning website for $15. The in-class First Aid skill session will be added at the end of the BLS class. 

 

BLS Provider Renewal

Course Description - The American Heart Association BLS Renewal course is for AHA BLS Providers needing to renew their BLS certification. 

Renewal PolicyOnly those with a current (NOT EXPIRED) AHA BLS Provider certificate may participate in the renewal. Proof of a valid certification is required at class check-in. If your certificate has expired please enroll in the BLS Provider course instead.  

Class Format - This course is Instructor-led classroom format. No online course required.

Certification - 2 year American Heart Association BLS Provider e-card

Manual - Participants may bring their own BLS Provider Manual (2020 edition required by the AHA) or purchase an ebook online for $14. 

 Optional First Aid Certification - Heartsaver First Aid - $45 (2 year AHA certificate)

Course Description - American Heart Association HeartCode BLS is a blended learning course that combines eLearning (online course) followed by a hands-on skill session with an instructor.

  • Part 1 - A self-paced series of online training modules (Up to 2 hours)
  • Part 2 - Skills practice session at our facility  (Up to 1 hour 10 minutes)

Certification - 2 year American Heart Association BLS Provider e-card

Required Online Course - Prior to the in-class skills session, you MUST complete the online Heartcode BLS course thru the AHA eLearning website for $31 (payable to the AHA when you sign up for the online course).

    BLS Provider (CPR/AED for Healthcare) - New 2020 AHA Guidelines

    Reflects science and education from the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

    Class Format - To maximize class safety, this class is taught in 2 parts:

    • Part 1 - Zoom session (up to 1 hour 30 minutes)
    • Part 2 - In-class session at our facility (up to 1 hour 30 minutes)

    The zoom session must be completed prior to the in-class session. You do not need to register for the zoom session, you may choose any one of the zoom sessions from the schedule below. The zoom link will be emailed to you upon registering for the class.
